Jesus: Fully Divine and Fully Human
Bible Text: Hebrews 12:1-6 | Preacher: Frank Bolling | Series: Bible Basics
Part 1 – Divinity of Jesus
Jesus is divine, He is both God and man.
He is the radiance and glory of God
Heb 1:1-10
He is the image of the invisible God, all the fullness of God is in Him and through Him, He was God, He is God and He always will be God.
Colossians1:15-25
Why did God have to send His only son?
God wanted to experience life among mankind and be able to empathize with humanity. It was only through the sacrifice of Christ that this could be done. The only way God could solve the sin issue is by the perfect sacrifice His son.
Part 2 – Humanity of Jesus
John
Jesus came in the flesh,
Luke 2:52
he had a human mind and human flesh
He tired, bled, increased in wisdom.
He had a body and mind just like us.
Some people had a hard time thinking of Jesus as the Christ.
Heb 2:17-18 Had to become like His brothers. He knows what it is like to feel pain, sorrow,
Heb 4:15-16 tempted as we are but without sin.
In order to redeem humanity He had to become human
Rom 5:18-19
Hebrews 12:1-6
“Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured from sinners such hostility against himself, so that you may not grow weary or fainthearted. In your struggle against sin you have not yet resisted to the point of shedding your blood. And have you forgotten the exhortation that addresses you as sons? “My son, do not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord, nor be weary when reproved by him. For the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and chastises every son whom he receives.””
