Many believe that James is the most practical of writings in the Bible. Filled with commands and examples of faith, we read this letter with an awareness that walking with Jesus is practical and real. To say we follow Jesus is supposed to be seen in how we treat others, use our tongue, and think about this world. Our lives reveal that Jesus is real to us. We care about the poor, the orphan, and the widow. We speak words that build up and encourage rather than tear down. We recognize that prayer makes a difference and we refuse to allow our wealth to serve as proof of our spiritual well being. This short letter opens our eyes to what it means to people of faith in a world that is faithless.
