Yesterday, our team spent most of the day working in the home of a woman who lives in a house alone between the neighborhood where we’ve been working and a place where we distributed goods. She lives alone, has some health issues and the amount that needs to be done is almost overwhelming. But at the end of the day, we felt like we had accomplished something. We also brought her a lunch so she could eat with us, and some flowers for the front door. I was especially impressed with Akiko and Yuko’s personal touch of listening to her and talking with her all day while they went through ruined belongings. She was laughing and smiling at the end of the day.

Today, we went to a place to distribute goods. Perhaps another 150 people or more came. Toshi touched my heart as he gently helped an older couple because they were having difficulties with walking and carrying. Another guy similar to my age approached me. He told me that he studied the Bible with someone in the University and while he’s not a Christian, he has interest. Gaku had a similar experience. Tonight, we decided to take a break, so we invited friends in/from Sendai to come to dinner and karaoke with us. It was a much needed break and release of stress.
Each day our team has a devotional. Tomorrow’ scripture is Psalm 145. Perhaps you’d join us in reading and meditating on this passage.
I will exalt you, my God the King;
I will praise your name forever and ever.
Every day I will praise you
and extol your name for ever and ever. Psa 145:1-2, NIV
