Hezekiah, Mannaseh, and Amon.
Where does confidence come from? Is it possible to be confident when circumstances seem to warrant fear? Hezekiah surrounded by the Assyrian army prepares his commanders for battle. He speaks of confidence and strength. This confidence doesn’t come from their own might and having a superior army. Far from it. The city of Jerusalem is surrounded by a far superior army. From a human standpoint, defeat is certain. Hezekiah speaks of an unseen force and power. Hezekiah reminds the commanders that God and his army are far superior to Assyria. In 32:7-8, the commanders became confident because they believed. Human confidence comes from knowing one’s strengths and abilities. Confidence in God comes from trusting his strength and abilities. Personal confidence has its place. Godly confidence allows us to look beyond self and to see something greater. Walk in confidence. The God we serve and love is our strength. He is far greater than anything or anyone.
