Announcement of judgment against nations and Jerusalem.
At the end of Zephaniah is a promise of restoration. This is often God’s way — punishment and then restoration. As restoration occurs, Jerusalem is told to sing because the punishment has been lifted. But in an unexpected twist, we are told that God sings as well. This is a beautiful image. God sings with delight over his people. His joyous songs are meant to encourage and to demonstrate that God’s people have realigned themselves with God. Singing can be a response to a variety of emotions, but when there is harmony with God, singing is a result of joy and thanksgiving. To think of God singing with joy and thanksgiving because we are in harmony with Him is a beautiful image. What song do you think God sings when He thinks of you?
