Matthew 12:22-50 and Luke 11

Allegiance
Debates were a regular part of Jesus’ ministry.  Some debated Jesus and others debated about Jesus.  Jesus was not intentionally controversial, but his teaching was so new and fresh that it challenged people often leading to debate.  Jesus called for a response.  It was not possible to be neutral about Jesus then and it isn’t possible now.  In Luke 11:23, Jesus says that one is either with him or against him.  Jesus wanted all to be with him.  He called for everyone to follow.  However, there were those who heard the message and accused Jesus of being Satanic; others accused him of being out of his mind; and others demanded a sign in order to believe.  The opposition against Jesus is growing.  Jesus says those who live their lives in acceptance of the message are the ones God will bless.  We can debate Jesus and his teachings.  We will not be the first generation to see Jesus as controversial.  But the real blessing is found in accepting Jesus and his teachings.
