Wealth.
Life is not measured by how much we own. Jesus’ words are true. Intellectually we know this. We also know that wealth allows us to have more choices. Almost anyone would prefer wealth to poverty. Jesus goes on to warn that wealth without a relationship with God is foolish. Money with God is opportunity. It is opportunity to share; to give; even to sell what one has to benefit the one who doesn’t have. The problem is not in having the wealth but in believing that wealth determines your value. Is it no wonder that Jesus says to sell our possessions and give to the poor (12:33)? If wealth leads us to believe that we need no one or that we have worth, then this idol must be destroyed. We use money everyday. Think about its use. Think what it means to you. Be thankful that you have it. Give it away as often as you can. Accumulate less. Life is not measured by how much we own.
