Humility.
Developing the mind of Christ is rarely easy. Paul tells us that it takes humility. A willingness to voluntarily choose a lower role and position so that others can benefit. One of the realities of choosing humility is that people will take advantage of us. Others will see our humility as a sign of weakness and use it to increase their advantage. People certainly did that with Jesus. The powerful, however, soon learned that when Jesus identified with the weak and powerless, he was revered. Even at the crucifixion Jesus chose the servant’s role rather than exerting power. Choosing to be a servant so that others may benefit is not easily done. Let’s start with each other. Refuse to demand your way; rather, choose to serve. Complain less. Remember that our citizenship is in heaven. Be thankful. With Christ we can live this way.
