Reaching out to people on the Yokota Air Base – July 27
There are only a few members in Yokota Church of Christ (the English speaking military congregation) at the present time. Last year when we realized that we had to do something to energize the church, we made the following plan to invite a retired military couple to work with the American congregation during the PCS season in Air Force. After searching for workers, we found a good worker who is willing to sacrifice his time for the Lord on behalf of us. Bro. John Phillis from Northeast Church of Christ in Albuquerque NM came to the Yokota on 21 July to work with us. He is also a dedicated worker for Military Outreach organization www.1militaryoutreach1.com, which sends out workers to military bases.
Since he came to us, he has been already actively working very hard and making contact with people on base. The 24th was the first Lord’s day for John in Yokota. Providentially a new Christian family happened to attend the worship service. They have three children. The number of the attendance already doubled that day! They arrived at Yokota Base a few days ago. Some people may skip a worship service until they settle down, but they are different. They are devoted Christians. Bro. John immediately connected with them and encouraged them to attend the service. This was a really good start.
John also uses Facebook in order to let people know the Church of Christ is here in Yokota.

He has brought a good publication and brochures for ads by which people know there is Church of Christ. Supposedly there are 10,000 people including family members on base. 1% of the population may be members of the Lord’s church, but they may not know there is Church here. We need to put out ads. He has lots of great ideas. Not only that he also has abilities and skills to reach out to people to touch their hearts. He is really good with people.
