The scriptures teach us that God provides leadership for His people. He calls these leaders “shepherds” (often translated as “pastors,” “elders,” and “overseers;” sometimes translated as “bishops” or “presbyters”). God’s intent for leaders is that they are first servants, even as Jesus was a servant (John 13:13-15). He did not intend for them to be “board members” or a committee. Several scriptures give us details about the character and work of these leaders:
- Acts 20:28-31
- Ephesians 4:11-14
- 1 Timothy 3:1-7
- Titus 1:5-9
- James 5:14
At Park Avenue, we willingly submit to the leadership of five men who exemplify the character traits that are described in scripture:
Dana Baldwin
Barney Gardner
Paul Goddard
Carl Watson
Mike White
